Background

As of May 2016, the Centre for Strategic & Policy Studies (CSPS), aspires to be an “Internationally Recognized Foresight Think Tank” in addition and as a value added dimension to its flagship as the premier think tank for strategic and policy studies for Brunei Darussalam.

CSPS supports organisational innovation and the design of Anticipatory Governance strategies that fit CSPS mandate and serve the needs of the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

In response to accelerating speeds of change, numerous global challenges, a rise in the complexity and interconnections between policy areas, policy-making is undergoing dramatic shifts. In the past policy-making could be reactive, “waiting for the future to arrive”. It was fragmented and siloed addressing policy problems area by area. More and more, however, policy-making requires a proactive and anticipatory approaches; an understanding of how policy areas cut across systems and an awareness of how global and local issues co-mingle. Governments around the world have subsequently begun building foresight and related approaches into policy-making processes. CSPS’ Brunei Futures Initiative aims to become a partnership for excellence with relevant stakeholders in the practice of strategic foresight for policy making.
